Sedation Dentistry

What Is Sedation Dentistry?

Sedation Dentistry refers to the use of sedative drugs that safely calm and relax a patient prior to and during a dental procedure. At NOVA we provide sedation dentistry to our patients through the use of safe sedative medications that are inhaled or ingested by the patient. Our goal is to reach a safe level of minimal or moderate sedation during which a patient is able to respond to purposeful stimulation and exhibit signs of consciousness but feels that they are in a sleep/dream-like state during their appointment.

Who Is A Candidate for Sedation Dentistry?

Any patient who feels extremely anxious about a trip to the dentist or a patient that will avoid dental care all together due to fears and anxiety would be good candidates for Sedation Dentistry.

What is Pediatric Dental Sedation (children's sleep dentistry)?

Pediatric Dental Sedation is recommended for very apprehensive or special needs children. This also includes children who require major treatment, very young pre-cooperative children, and those with a strong gag reflex. The doctors at Nova Dental Associates perform the dental treatment while sedation is administered and monitored by a certified anesthesiologist.
